A conversation that happened this morning with my 8-year-old (NT):
Me: “Mommy is not going in to work today. She is taking the day off.”
Jonny: “Why? She needs to go in and help people! People might die!”
Me:”… ”
Me:”… I guess… that’s…one way of looking at it…but Mommy has lots of help at work and all the nurses take turns working so everybody is taken care of.”
Jonny: “But what about Christmas? Those people didn’t get to open presents that had to work.”
Me: “That’s true, bud. A lot of people who work at the hospital don’t get to open presents on Christmas morning. ”
Jonny: “awwww. 🙁 ”
Me: “yep, it takes a special person to be a nurse or work at a hospital”
To all those who work in the hospitals, the military, and emergency services, thank you for all you do and for giving up your holidays so that other people can enjoy theirs.
