“Brothers forever.”
There are some moments in our lives that are etched in our memories forever. Some are inconsequential moments that our brains have chosen to retain for whatever reason.
Others are borne out of emotion. Extreme happiness, or profound sorrow.
This is one of those memories. Where I push “pause” on my life for a minute and step back to really “take in” a moment.
I was just making some breakfast and looked over at the boys and saw this.
It was completely spontaneous. Jonah doesn’t usually like being held by others, especially not by his brother…and sometimes Jonny will try to hug him just to antagonize his brother and I will have to tell him to knock it off.
But it wasn’t so today.
Not at this moment.
This is family.
When you strip away everything else, this is the core of who my boys are to each other.
There will come a day down the road when I will not be around. When my wife will not be around.
And the boys will have each other. Big brother and little brother.
I can’t tell you how much it means to me to know that my boys genuinely love each other.
It means that they will look out for each other. It means that they will fight for each other and stand up for each other.
Sure, they may may not get along ALL the time, but in the end they are brothers.
Brothers forever.
