We had a family memorial out of town last weekend.
Some of our family invited us to stay with them.
Whenever people invite us to stay somewhere with them (especially in their home overnight), I always feel hesitant to accept the invite…
Because “what if…” right?
Too many “what if’s…”
It was a 2 hour drive to a new place with new people for Jonah (definitely OUT of the routine).
We didn’t actually take the boys to the service itself. There was no way they would last through that.
I took them to the last 20 minutes or so of the reception and that was about right. Jonah sat on my lap playing with my phone most of the time.
I was worried about how he would do with the trip, but Jonah rocked it. All weekend. Even at night.
He slept okay. So we slept okay. We made sure to bring all his bedtime stuff (music, nightlights, etc) so he would know it’s “bedtime.”
It didn’t help that daylight savings time started yesterday, but we didn’t have to be anywhere right away this morning so it wasn’t too bad.
Tomorrow morning for school will be a different story.
Cousins came over and Jonah had a blast with them. Jonah kind of followed Jonny around and took his lead from him. If Jonny was playing with someone, Jonah would jump right in as well.
The family we were staying with live in the country so there is a lot of space to run around. Jonah had a blast. The boys even found a stray “farm cat” Jonny named “Isabella.”
When it was time to leave, I actually had to redirect and transition Jonah to get into the car. He didn’t want to leave!
He has come so far. You can really tell the difference being in preschool with other kids makes. He is SO comfortable around other kids (at least when Daddy is there). That wasn’t always the case.
He did have a bit of anxiety if he lost sight of me at the beginning. He was afraid I would leave and he would start to cry if I even left to use the restroom…
But by the end of the trip, he had settled right in. I’m so proud!
He’s sporting a bit of a shiner from yesterday, when he tripped and fell face first on the playground…right on his eye.
At least picture day is tomorrow at school… 🤪
