So I was picking Jonah up from school yesterday.
His teacher made a point of telling me he’s had a “remarkably average” week, nothing really to report, which to me translates to a SUPER-FREAKIN’-FANTASTIC week.
He hasn’t been aggressive with her. He didn’t hit anyone all week. To me… that’s a win right there.
See, when I hear a kid screaming in distress, I’m assuming it’s either my kid, or my kid is directly responsible for the screaming.
When I see a classroom absolutely destroyed, I’m assuming my kid destroyed it. Because 99 out of 100 times, it IS my kid who destroyed it.
When I hear about a child hitting someone at school I DREAD that my kid is involved, but am not at all surprised when my kid is involved.
That’s just my life as an Ausome parent. I’m on pins and needles every time a teacher needs to talk to me.
I’m already thinking “what did they do now?”
So when I hear that Jonah had a “remarkably average” week. That he hasn’t hit anyone all week and has been a “superstar,” I call that a GOOD week. A GREAT week. Heck, I’ll celebrate that week.
When you are so used to hearing about all the bad things that went down at school with your child, It’s like a breath of fresh air when you hear that “your child did not cause any bad things to happen this week, and nothing bad happened to them either.”
As an Ausome parent, I need to hear that from the teachers.
I need to know that “nothing happened today.”
Because I’m my mind, that makes today a success.
