I so get this.
It was a solid week and a half before we were actually on time for school this last fall.
There have been times when I have just picked Jonah up and thrown him in the car to try to beat the “infernal late bell.”
Mid-meltdown and without a stitch of clothing on him.
Heaven forbid we are 30 seconds late.
Last year, Jojo’s preschool teacher was able to be more lax about it. She would have a “morning recess” for 20 minutes while the kids were arriving.
This year, the whole school does a “morning assembly” in the gym daily and they lock the gym doors as soon as the late bell rings.
If you don’t make it, you have to get a tardy slip.
That late bell in the morning is the cause of more anxiety in this house than almost any other school-related issue.
And it’s not like we are just “irresponsible.”
Life happens.
Jonah refuses now to put his shoes or coat on until we get to school. Sometimes, he refuses to even get dressed.
Some days, he refuses to go potty in the morning, and since he won’t go at school, it means he holds it for 18 hours until he gets home.
Typically, I will just wait him out, but with that infernal late bell, I will just pack him up in his pajamas whether he is ready or not and go.
And then he is an absolute monster to his teachers.
Being somewhere at a very specific time in the morning is not an unreasonable request, but sometimes with our family, is just HARD TO DO.
Much appreciation to those that “get it.”
