“Knowing when to leave.”
We don’t usually have this problem with most family events.
Jonah loves being with his cousins. He loves playing and interacting with them and we have a tough time leaving it.
But other places?
Every time I enter a building, I make sure I know every exit.
First, to assess the most dangerous place for elopement.
Second, to see how to make a quick exit if we need it.
If we’re having trouble waiting in line, if we start “throwing things,” if we start “breaking things,” if we start hitting… that’s when we gotta call it a day.
Sometimes you can see the meltdown coming. Sometimes it is inevitable.
As a parent, I have to decide the “best” place to have it.
If not at home, then in the car. The fewer the people around the better. The less breakable objects around the better.
But the ONLY way to make sure we get to where we need to go is knowing WHEN to leave.
