Jonny turns 15 tomorrow.
FIFTEEN!!
Jonny has come up with some unintentionally profound statements in the past around his birthday… tonight was no different.
When I was putting him to bed (yes I still put him to sleep), I let Jonny know how proud of him I was.
How proud I am of his character… and the young man he is developing into.
This was our conversation.
Me: “I’m proud of you Jonny. I’m proud of your character. You know, a lot of teenagers aren’t like you. They don’t want to follow rules or do what’s asked of them.”
Jonny: “why?”
Me: “I don’t know, bud. But a lot of people around your age want to push or break their boundaries. They want to rebel against everything, especially their parents.”
Jonny: “I know. But why don’t they want to follow the rules?”
Me: “I think most teenagers crave independence. They don’t want anyone telling them what to do.”
Jonny: “But without laws, there is chaos.”
😳 (Yes, he actually said that)
Me: “That’s true, buddy. That’s good insight. Who told you that?”
Jonny: “Nobody. It just makes sense.”
(This kid…)
Me: “Yes, well, it’s time for this ‘sense-making’ almost 15-year-old to go to bed.”
Jonny: “Dad?”
Me: “yeah?”
Jonny: “I’m proud of you for being my Daddy. There’s not many dads like you.”
🥹😭
Happy 15th buddy,
I’m so proud of you, Jonny.
