Jonny’s Recasting

I am happy to say that I have nothing to really report about Jonny’s recasting other than it went as expected.

The doctor cut the old cast off, bathed him, took x-rays of his hips, checked them over, and recasted him. I had mentioned the ‘clicking’ I felt underneath Jonny’s cast but the surgeon said his hips looked perfect and that it was probably a tendon or ligament ‘popping’ as Jonny pushes against his cast which I guess is a fairly common thing.

He didn’t need any pain meds because there was really no reason for them. I think I can see 2 places the anesthesiologist tried to set an IV in his hands, but he ended without one in the end. It is pretty standard to have an IV in any time they knock you out in case they need to push emergency meds if there is a reaction to the anesthetics. They used a mask to put him under last time and I think they did the same this time. What I think happened is the doctor told the anesthesiologist to forget about an IV since it took 13 tries last time and they wouldn’t be able to set it in his feet like last time since they were so swollen. Also there was really no risk of a reaction to the anesthetics since he had already been under without incident.

This time we went in at 6am and were done by about 10am which is much better. On top of that, last night Jonny slept from 9:30 last night to 5am and then after feeding, slept another 3 hours until Mama found him awake in his crib at about 8am (not even fussing!)

The only ‘negative’ about the whole ordeal is that the surgeon didn’t get the memo about a ‘Christmas theme’ cast of green or red, (blue as an alternate) and opted for purple instead. Seriously. I guess I’ll have to dress him in purple and gold husky colors, but Mama is vetoing my idea since she got her degree from the sworn enemy school.

Oh, and he will be getting it off probably before Christmas.
