Sleep? who needs it…

When Jonny was born, I secretly hoped that he would sleep through the night on his own at like 6 weeks…and he would magically feed himself when he got hungry. Such was not the case of course, but now, having an 18-month old, I thought for sure a long time ago he would be sleeping uninterrupted through the night by now.

Hmm. Well, since his doctor’s appointment, Jonny has not been able to sleep through the night. And it is not just the “wake up at midnight, and 4 am” for a feeding type of ‘awakeness’. Jonny has been getting up literally every hour AT LEAST between cutting 8 teeth, a fever from his shots and pain in his legs. I had 2 hours of sleep 2 nights in a row, and 4 hours the next night, 5 hours the next (hey, progress right?) He hasn’t slept this badly since his cleft surgery when he couldn’t be put down. The last few days have been pretty tough. Mama worked some pretty brutal hours and came home with what she thinks is strep throat after not getting much sleep and working on top of it. She got some anti-biotics yesterday and is starting to feel a little better.

Luckily she had the last few days off.

I have taken Jonny to my parents over the weekend and brought my work with me so Mama can recover at home. It has been rough.

So between taking care of Mama and Jonny, my ‘biggest loser diet’ went out the window for a few days. Mama was craving ice cream when she had a fever, so like a good husband, I went out and got her a blizzard from DQ…and so she wouldn’t feel bad for eating one when we are on a diet, I went ahead and had one too. and also many other sympathy foods… so I fell off the horse a bit this week, but will hopefully be back in the swing of things next week.

Jonny slept from 1:45am till 9am this morning straight so that is a good sign that he is able to sleep in longer intervals without wailing uncontrollably. I just had to let him cry it out for a while and fell asleep after he realized nobody was going to pick him up. (His crying has turned from the “I’m in pain” cry of 3 days ago into the “DON’T LEAVE ME ALONE!!…and let me sleep in your lap forever” fuss). I can hear that cry a mile away…well, actually it’s pretty hard not to.

“After the storm” I wouldn’t let him dump all the spices out from the spice cabinet. Meltdown ensued. After an hour of…
