Today before Jonah’s preschool, all the kids were walking in line to class. Usually I have to hold Jonah’s hand. Not so today.
But one little preschooler at the back of the line was not having a good time. He was having separation anxieties and his dad was basically having to drag him to class, eventually picking him up.
And Jojo kind of just “slowly moved” further and further back in line, until he was walking right next to the little boy, with a little grin on his face.
You would think that the sound of a screaming toddler would set Jonah on edge. It set ME on edge.
But not so with Jojo. Jonah walked right next to him with a big smile, all the way to class.
Jonah used to laugh at the sound of crying babies and I never knew why.
I choose to believe it is his way of empathizing with the other person over their plight…
“I too have been there when my Daddy drops me off at places sometimes. It happens to all of us. Cheer up, my friend! (You can have all my lunch later, because I don’t eat it)”
