Yesterday, I took the boys to visit my parents.
I had left Jonah’s diaper bag in the car (yes, he is 4 and we still need a diaper bag).
Usually, if I go back outside, Jonah will start crying, desperately trying to follow me, afraid I will leave.
Yesterday, I simply said, “I have to go to the car to get your diaper bag. I’ll be right back, buddy,” and he was fine.
It goes to show that even though Jonah doesn’t say very much, he understands EXACTLY what is said to him.
He’s not “smarter than he looks.”
He is a SMART KID.
Every day, he is learning.
And I have learned to be very intentional with my words and what I say to him.
All kids need to be encouraged. All kids need to feel valued. All kids need to feel loved.
And so I make sure to let him know.
Every single day.
