“What will happen when I’m gone?”

“What will happen when I’m gone?”

Our goal is for them to learn to live independently. To support themselves. I suppose that is the goal of any parent raising kids…

But some kids have higher mountains to climb than others, and some have more to carry and need constant support and will always need constant support.

And we as parents are ready and willing to help our kids ‘climb’ their mountain for the rest of our natural lives if need be.

And many times, that is exactly what is required of us. And sometimes we know that it still won’t be ‘enough.’

Sometimes we feel guilty when we think about our other kids having to be responsible for their sibling(s).

But I’ve seen Jonny step in and help out with his brother without any prompting. It’s just what he does.

The other day, we were out playing in the snow and Jonny wanted to go inside and eat. I told him I needed to stay out with Jonah and that he would need to get himself breakfast.

Well, not only did he get himself breakfast, he made his brother some breakfast as well. He’s seen me prepare Jonah’s food enough, that he has learned to do it himself.

Not only that, but he said he wanted to make Jonah’s breakfast every day.

Jonny has a natural heart of love and compassion for his brother, and that gives me tremendous peace of mind for the future.
