Anxiety.
The more we do something, the less “hard” it becomes.
That’s why routines are so crucial.
Doing new things makes Jonah anxious because he doesn’t know what to expect.
And that lack of control can lead to dysregulation, which can lead to meltdowns.
So much of what we work on in therapy sessions is successfully coping with life when things are out of the “routine.”
Because that is life. It won’t always go as expected.
I try to give Jonah as much preparation as possible before doing something new or different.
But sometimes life gets the best of us…
And we have to try again tomorrow.
