It’s ALWAYS it’s better to be prepared.

Jonah was sick on Saturday… just running a fever and lethargic.

While he was laying on top of me on the couch, he reached out, his limbs all outstretched (like a cat stretching) and then he shook for about 2 seconds. His whole body. And then he rolled over and went back to sleep.

It was like a shudder passed through his muscles. Like when you get a chill and your muscles react reflexively. I don’t think I would have even noticed, except he was laying on me and I could FEEL it.

I passed it off as a natural muscle spasm at the time, the kind you get when you have a good long stretch. I really didn’t think much of it.

But at the time, I didn’t know THIS either. 15% to 30% of individuals with autism will also have epilepsy.

The possibility of a seizure NEVER even entered my mind.

We have no “protocols” in place. No “plan” of action. I wouldn’t have the FIRST CLUE of what to do in case of a seizure.

I don’t know the different kinds of seizures or how to even RECOGNIZE them.

Luckily, Mama is a nurse so she has training, which is why I’ve not been overly worried about it (if SHE was worried, I would be worried), but after reading a bit of what Honey Badger is going through over at Just a minutemy cape is in the dryer, I can see I will need to educate myself, so I at least know how to recognize a seizure and what to do.

Because, you really never know, and it’s ALWAYS it’s better to be prepared.
