How do you keep from having to chase your kids?
The other day, Mama had forgotten something she needed for work and had asked me to bring it to her.
Jonah was home from school so I had to take him with me.
For those that don’t know, Mama works at a hospital in an intensive care unit.
In the past, when visiting Mama at work, I had just put Jonah in a stroller and taken him on in.
But he has outgrown his stroller.
We are at the point where the price for a stroller that would fit him jumps tremendously. And there is no guarantee that he would even sit in it as it is not HIS stroller.
So I just had to hold Jonah’s hand. You know how that can go.
Sometimes he does well, other times, he rips his hand out of mine and SPRINTS away.
But I have learned that in order to succeed, I have to give Jonah the opportunity for success. So off we went.
And to his credit, Jonah held my hand through the entire hospital. He ripped his hand out of mine once and started to bolt, but he was looking for the “break room” which is where he has gone in the past for Mama’s work parties.
Thankfully, that’s where we were headed anyways, and were nearly there when he started to bolt.
In most cases, I can catch him, but I try to avoid places I won’t be able to contain him. But I know there will be times where it is unavoidable.
What do you guys do in those situations?
