We’ll just have to cross that bridge when we get to it.

Jonny has picked up on this already…

We’ve been talking about all the therapists and services Jonah has been receiving in preschool and how much progress Jonah has made. Jonny asked if our therapist will come with him to middle school.

I told him, that he probably wouldn’t.

“What will Jonah do when he gets to 6th grade and he still has autism?”

“He will probably have support from other people, buddy.”

“But what about when he grows up?…”

“I dunno, bud… I dunno. We’ll just have to cross that bridge when we get to it.”

I’ve been modeling for Jonny the different things we do for Jonah to help him. Jonny has learned to use the transition cues Jonah understands and has also learned to use “First, then” phrasing.

Not only am I teaching Jonny how to interact with his brother, I’m preparing Jonny to support his brother, should a time come that he ever need to.
