I just read an article about sensory links between autism and a phenomenon known as synesthesia.
Synesthesia is an anomalous blending of the senses in which the stimulation of one modality simultaneously produces sensation in a different modality. Synesthetes hear colors, feel sounds and taste shapes.
Basically concrete links between autism and synesthesia have been discovered and clarified for the first time. New research finds similarities between the two conditions and suggests how they might be much more closely associated than previously thought.
How cool is that?
