One of the hardest t…

One of the hardest things as a parent is not being able to communicate with your child.

One of the hardest things as a child is parents who don’t understand you.

I had just told Jojo that it was time for bed.

He kept repeating this phrase, which was unintelligible to me.

He obviously wanted “something” for bedtime.

I thought it might be another toy story character (Harmony?) or maybe another toy I was unaware of…

But I couldn’t tell what he was saying at all. Neither could Mama.

Jonah was getting so frustrated that I couldn’t understand his words because it made perfect sense to him.

This went on for like 5 minutes before I started recording.

Jonah was getting more and more frustrated.

I was at such a loss, that I was going to try to see if anyone else had any idea what he was saying. Sometimes, fresh ears can hear phrases differently.

At the end of the video, you can hear me finally figure it out.

“I want baggie!”

This is what he was trying to tell me. He wanted to gather up all his toys in a bag to take them up to his room for bedtime.

I have to applaud Jonah for holding it together despite our communication difficulty.

That’s not always the case.

It was frustrating for me to not be able to figure it out. I can’t imagine how frustrating it was for Jojo to be communicating VERBALLY and STILL not be understood.

Sometimes it takes another perspective.

Sometimes it takes another way of communicating.

Sometimes it just takes time.

But we still figured it out. Together.

Because, that is what our journey is all about. We are in this thing together. And we will do what it takes to be successful.

Even if it takes a little bit longer, forward is forward.

It is a step in the right direction. And that is still progress.

No matter how slow.
