I don’t want to say we’re making sleep progress for fear of jinxing it but…
Last night, I heard Jonah’s door open and shut in the middle of the night.
Typically, this means Jonah is coming in to our bedroom to climb into bed with us.
Only he didn’t.
I laid there waiting for him to come in… but I heard him climb back up his slide into bed. (He has a metal “slide bed”)
I slowly started drifting off to sleep when about a half-hour later (in my mind), I heard it again.
Jonah climbed out of bed. I heard him open his bedroom door, and then shut it again.
Again he stayed in his room.
I laid awake in bed, not knowing what to do.
This is akin to the first night a child sleeps through the night…
Should I check on him? Should I see what he’s doing?
Ideally, I would WANT him to stay in his room right? I should just let him be right??
I heard him climb back up into his bed again.
Well, at least I knew where he was…
He wasn’t going for a late night snack or playing with his toys…
Pondering what else he could be doing, I fell back asleep…
Then, about 5:30am or so, I heard it one more time. Door opens… and then shuts…
Only Jonah finally came into our room and climbed into bed with us. By then, The sun had come up.
This is what I had been expecting all night.
He promptly fell back asleep in our bed until like 8am.
I have no idea what he was doing while he was awake last night.
I really REALLY REALLY hope he was just checking to see if it was light out yet, and saw that it was still dark out and decided to go back into his own bed at least until it was light out.
I seriously doubt that is what’s going on… but I fell asleep before I could really investigate.
But maybe lightning sill strike again tonight and he won’t wander into our bed until morning.
Hey. I’ll take 5:30am over 2am any day (morning).
Here’s to hoping.
