It seems people have been posting a lot of old photos lately.
Maybe they want to remember the better times.
So I decided to join in.
Curious as to what I’d find, I started rooting through my jumble of unorganized photo files.
I found this one buried amongst my old photos.
When Jonny was four, he loved the muppet show. He loved everything about it.
He had every season they released on DVD.
He would request specific episodes like “I want Steve Martin,” or “I want Leo Sayer!”
He was probably the only one his age alive who knew the names of all these guest stars.
He had a stuffed Kermit that went with him everywhere. They were inseparable.
One day, Jonny informed us that it was “Kermit’s birthday.”
So we had an impromptu birthday celebration. We sang happy birthday and Kermit “blew out” his candle on his “birthday cupcake.”
A short while later, we introduced Jonny to Star Wars and he generally lost interest in the muppets in favor of all things Star Wars.
“Stuffed Kermit” has been replaced with “Darthy” (a stuffed Darth Vader).
It’s been 7 years.
And Jonny is 11 now. I try not to think about it, but one day, “Darthy” will also go the way of Kermit…
I don’t know if I will be able to handle that.
I wish I could freeze time.
My boys are growing up.
Looking at this photo, I find myself longing for the days of Kermit and Fozzie Bear.
When we celebrated the birthdays of stuffed animals.
But looking through all these old photos reminds me of all the good times I have had with my kids.
When life is rough…
They are my diamonds.
