He’s lucky he’s so d…

He’s lucky he’s so darn cute.

“Last morning” (to use a term Jonny coined), Jonah strolled into our bed about 3am and didn’t fall back asleep again.

He must have tossed and turned for a while in bed with us.

I was awoken to the sound of Jonah saying “MOM! DAD!!”

I thought something was wrong.

Not only because Jonah was calling for us…
…but because Jonah was CALLING FOR US.

Never EVER has Jonah said our names at night, unprompted.

He barely says ANYTHING unprompted, EVER.

You start to notice when your previously non-verbal son starts calling for you…

What on earth…?

“Jenny!… Charlie!….”

Ummmm…

(Those are not our names).

“…louder… JENNY!!! CHARLIE!!!!”

Wait….a…minute…

“Say It Louder, Dory… JENNY!! CHARLIE!!”

Oh SON-OF-A…!! I get it, now…
Mmmmmffffgggh…

The boy is laying in bed with us, tossing and turning while scripting a scene from “Finding Dory at… (what the heck time is it?) now 4am.

FOUR O’CLOCK IN THE MORNING!

ARRRRRGGGGGHH!!!

I sat up and looked over… Mama wasn’t even in our bed anymore. She must have taken the couch sometime after Jonah’s entrance.

She finally came back around 5:00 am. Jonah was still chatting away in our bed.

It was getting light outside and that is sort of Jonah’s queue as to if he can “be awake” or not. So simply “taking him back to bed,” might have mixed results. And a 5am meltdown was not something I was prepared to endure.

That would wake brother up… and then I would have 2 meltdowns simultaneously.

But Mama started tossing and turning as Jonah lay between us, also tossing and turning, continuing to recite all the dialogue from entire scenes of Disney’s underwater Pixar sequel.

(Did I mention Mama works in the Intensive Care Unit, helping to save lives and stuff and she had to be at work that morning?)

Yeah.

So I just got up and went downstairs and laid down on the couch.

I didn’t really know what that would accomplish, except I figured it would at least be much quieter (for me).

…What. Shaddup.

…Don’t judge. I was tired.

(I mean NOW, I can see That it wouldn’t exactly solve the problem of Jonah keeping Mama awake…)

Maybe Mama could take Jonah’s bed.

…instead, the cute little angelic jerk got up and followed me down the stairs, climbed up on the couch, and sat down on my legs, continuing his “JENNY!! Charlie!!” script.

I knew, I wouldn’t fall back asleep. Hopefully Mama was able to get a wink or two before she had to get up.

The boy finally went down again about 7am on my legs and proceeded to sleep the morning away…

…Which is never good news for bedtime that night…

Man…

I really thought we had worn him out yesterday.

Auntie brought over a huge inflatable pool and Jonah spent all day playing in and around it, in the hot sun.

He seemed so tired at bedtime.

But…

At least He was super happy all day.

He didn’t yell at his brother for walking down the stairs or sitting in the couch. He even tolerated me on my computer for a bit.

Hey… I may be exhausted and a little mentally drained, but I’ll take that victory…

It’s still worth it.

For them.

Tomorrow… we’ll try again.

(Send moar coffee plz)
