“Maybe you shouldn’t let him watch those ‘kiddie’ videos.”
“Don’t you think you should make him eat more vegetables?”
“Maybe you’re not spending enough time to teach him to read.”
I can always tell, by the tone
of voice. The subtle suggestions. The stories of “my neighbor’s brother-in-law’s chiropractor tried (x, y, or z) therapy…” The “I saw something on the news last night…” phone calls. Some of the “helpful” suggestions come with the best of intentions, but there is an underlying suggestion:“You must be doing something wrong.”
There is backhanded judgment in each offer of “a better way”.
A good rule of thumb would be, if I didn’t ask you, kindly keep your “wisdom” to yourself.
