My sister has been following all the speech therapy insurance coverage drama I’ve been dealing with and showed up on my doorstep today with this trophy.
Oftentimes, I’ll say that I’m just “all out of spoons” after being mentally drained all day. (IYKYK)
Today was no exception. I spent another 3 hours on the phone dealing with getting this stupid appointment covered by insurance and I was just “done” with everything.
So today, my sister texted me and asked if I needed any help. Then she came and picked up Jonny and dropped him off at his overnighter, something that was on my to-do list for this afternoon (given I had finished up dealing with our insurance by then—I hadn’t).
So it helped me a lot. Just one less thing for me to worry about.
Jonah started getting upset because he has the worst case of FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) and Jonny was doing something without brother.
So I needed a redirection, but I had zero ideas in my mental state.
“Hey Jojo! Do you want to go get a toy?”
It wasn’t my best parenting move. Especially when a toy has not been earned. But I had to think quickly and it’s all I could come up with.
Honestly, I probably would have bought him anything at that point because I simply could not deal with a meltdown just then. But Jojo settled on a color-changing Ramon Matchbox car. Not too expensive. Doesn’t take up much space (even if he has 287 other Cars)
Perfect.
And then I came home and saw this trophy my sister had left me.
“Congrats on Adulting!”
Just a little affirmation that what I’m going through, is a lot, and that my “dealing” with it all and not completely losing my mind deserved some recognition.
It got me through the rest of the day. I was able to take Jojo out to the sprinkler park (and also got myself a nice venti iced Americano)
That’s what this trophy did for me. Even if my sister couldn’t directly contribute to helping me deal with all the “mess,” she could directly contribute to helping me deal with “me” and my mental state.
She gave me back a small piece of my sanity.
She gave me back a few “spoons.”
😊
